Support to Planning Authorities

We provide a range of services to support planning authorities on environmental matters to enable informed decisions to be made on planning applications for major, often contentious, development proposals. Adopting our partnership ethos, we can act as a virtual part of the development planning team, being on call as and when you need advice and support.

We can guide you through the EIA process, highlighting the key decision points and advising how to obtain further information from applicants to ensure you have all you need to be able to make an informed decision.

How we can help

We offer support to planning authorities for development planning applications, particularly those that require EIA with an Environmental Statement submitted. Our service includes:

  • Environmental advice during pre-applicaton discussions with developers
  • Preparation of EIA Screening Opinions
  • Preparation of EIA Scoping Opinions
  • Review of Environmental Statements to confirm compliance with EIA Regulations, published guidance and best practice
  • Environmental advice during and post-determination of planning applications
  • Advice on nutrient neutrality (in affected catchments)

We can also provide training to planning officers on the EIA process to build knowledge and capacity within planning teams. Training can be tailored to meet need and budget, and range from short webinars to full-day training (in person or virtually).
